How Does the Light Adjustable Lens Work?
The lens is implanted during cataract surgery, then adjusted with UV light over a series of short office visits once your eye has healed.
It happens in four stages. First, Dr. Truong removes your cataract and implants the LAL, just like a standard procedure. Over the next two to three weeks, your eye heals and your vision stabilizes. Then you return for a series of light treatments — each just a few minutes and completely painless — that reshape the lens to sharpen your vision. Once it’s exactly where you want it, two final lock-in treatments make the result permanent.
Because the lens responds to UV light, you’ll wear the protective glasses we provide during waking hours until your final lock-in — after that, they come off for good.

LAL surgery is a routine, outpatient cataract procedure — with a short series of follow-up visits afterward to perfect your vision.
