About Dr. Truong

A Surgeon's Training, an Engineer's Precision

Dr. David T. Truong is a board-certified ophthalmologist with advanced fellowship training in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery. He performs the full spectrum of corneal transplant surgery and advanced-technology cataract surgery, and offers laser vision correction to help his patients achieve the best vision possible.

His path to ophthalmology began in engineering. Dr. Truong earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Irvine, graduating cum laude as a Regents Scholar and Phi Beta Kappa member, and spent a year as a process development engineer before medical school. He went on to earn his Doctorate in Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine, complete an internal medicine internship at Carney Hospital in Boston, and finish his ophthalmology residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

He then completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA, where he served as the Klara Fleming Fellow and Abe Meyer Memorial Fellow. Dr. Truong practiced in Wichita, Kansas — including at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center — and in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before returning to Texas to found Azure Eye Center in 2023.

He remains academically active as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and previously served as a Health Sciences Clinical Instructor at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine.
