TECNIS Odyssey™ IOL in Fort Worth & Colleyville, TX
Johnson & Johnson's full-range lens is designed to give continuous vision from near to far after cataract surgery, with good contrast in low light. Offered by Dr. David Truong to patients across Fort Worth, Colleyville, Keller, and the DFW area.

The short answer
What is the TECNIS Odyssey IOL?
The TECNIS® Odyssey™ is a full-range presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens from Johnson & Johnson, implanted during cataract surgery. Instead of a few separate focal points, it is designed to give continuous vision from near to far, so most patients can read, use screens, and drive with little need for glasses.
It is one of J&J's newest premium lenses, and the TECNIS Odyssey Toric II version corrects astigmatism in the same surgery. Patients from Fort Worth, Colleyville, Keller, and Southlake see Dr. Truong to learn whether it fits their eyes.

How it works
How does the TECNIS Odyssey work?
Older multifocal lenses split light into two or three distinct focal points, which can leave gaps between them. The Odyssey uses a freeform diffractive design that spreads focus into a continuous range, so vision moves smoothly from a book to a dashboard to the road ahead.
Johnson & Johnson designed it to keep contrast strong in dim settings and to limit bothersome halos for a full-range lens. It is built on the TECNIS lens platform used in cataract surgery around the world.
- ✓Near: menus, phones, and reading.
- ✓Intermediate: computers, tablets, and the dashboard.
- ✓Distance: driving, golf, and TV.

Night vision
Will I see well at night with the Odyssey?
Night vision is one of the most common questions about premium lenses. The Odyssey was designed to limit the halos and glare that some multifocal lenses cause, and to hold contrast in dim light. Some patients still notice mild halos around headlights early on, which usually fade as the brain adapts.
If you drive a lot at night in Fort Worth or on the highways around DFW, tell Dr. Truong. He may also compare the Odyssey with an EDOF lens such as TECNIS PureSee.

Surgery and recovery
What to expect with TECNIS Odyssey surgery
Odyssey surgery is a routine outpatient cataract procedure performed one eye at a time in Azure Eye Center's accredited office-based surgery suite. Many patients add LensAR laser-assisted surgery for precise centering.
Most patients notice clearer vision within a few days and continue improving over several weeks as the brain adapts. You will use prescribed eye drops and see Dr. Truong or Dr. Samantha Reynolds for follow-up visits.

Cost & coverage
Is the TECNIS Odyssey covered by insurance?
Medicare and most insurance plans cover medically necessary cataract surgery, but the Odyssey is a premium lens upgrade with an out-of-pocket cost. Our team reviews your coverage and exact cost before surgery, and financing is available.

FAQ
TECNIS Odyssey IOL FAQs
Is the TECNIS Odyssey a multifocal lens?
Yes, it is a full-range presbyopia-correcting lens. Rather than a few separate focal points, it is designed to give continuous vision from near to far after cataract surgery.
Will I need glasses after the TECNIS Odyssey?
Most patients rarely need glasses for daily tasks after the Odyssey. Some still prefer readers for very small print or dim light, and results depend on your eye health.
Does the TECNIS Odyssey cause halos?
Some patients notice mild halos around lights at night, especially early on, but the Odyssey was designed to limit them for a full-range lens. Most people find they fade as the brain adapts.
Can the TECNIS Odyssey correct astigmatism?
Yes. The TECNIS Odyssey Toric II corrects astigmatism during the same surgery. Dr. Truong measures your astigmatism to decide whether the toric version is right for you.
TECNIS Odyssey vs. PanOptix Pro: which is better?
Neither is best for everyone. Both aim for near-to-far vision with few glasses; Dr. Truong recommends one based on your measurements, corneal shape, pupil size, and priorities such as night driving.
