What to Expect
Most patients are in and out in a matter of hours and back to normal routines quickly.
Before You Arrive
Eat normally and take your usual medications unless we tell you otherwise. We confirm your lens choice, measurements, and drop schedule ahead of time.
Check-In & Prep
You are greeted by the same team you already know. Dilating and numbing drops are started, and comfort medication is given by mouth when appropriate.
The Procedure
The surgery itself is typically brief and painless. You are monitored throughout, awake but relaxed, and one eye is treated at a time.
Recovery & Follow-Up
After a short rest, you go home the same day with a ride. We see you for follow-up and coordinate care with your referring optometrist.

Is office-based surgery as safe as a hospital?
For appropriately selected patients, yes. Our suite is accredited by The Joint Commission and follows the same standards for sterility, monitoring, medication handling, and emergency preparedness used in hospital operating rooms. The difference is the setting and the logistics — not the standard of care. Patients whose health history or anesthesia needs call for a hospital or ASC are scheduled there instead.
Will I be awake during the procedure?
You will be awake but relaxed and comfortable. Numbing drops keep the eye from feeling pain, and oral comfort medication is used when appropriate. Most patients describe seeing soft light and movement rather than any detail of the surgery.
Do I really not need to fast?
For most office-based cases, no. Because we avoid IV sedation, the overnight fast that hospitals require is generally unnecessary. Our team gives you specific instructions for your procedure — including which medications to take that morning — before your surgery date.
Does insurance cover surgery in an office suite?
Medically necessary procedures such as cataract surgery are typically covered the same way they would be elsewhere, and office-based surgery often costs less overall because there is no separate hospital or facility fee. Elective upgrades — such as premium lens implants — and fully elective procedures like RLE and EVO ICL are not covered by insurance. Our team verifies your benefits and gives you the numbers in writing before you schedule.
Do I need someone to drive me home?
Yes. Even with light sedation and dilating drops, you should not drive after your procedure. Plan on a friend or family member taking you home the same day.
How soon can I get on the schedule?
